Blackberry Update

Seeing as how it's now the end of August, I wanted to get a post in before the end of the month. It's bad enough that I have two empty months here - what would Hcatty say if I had a third? Actually, probably not much, seeing as she went post-less this year from April to August - not that there's anything wrong with that (see what I did there Miss Hcatty? Hehehehe). ;-)

Anyway, so my landscapers did make it out and finished removing the blackberries before the City's next inspection. Of course, it took two weeks to hear anything from the City, but they did finally let me know that the case was closed and everything was fine.

However, they did ask me a "favor" - they asked if I would go ahead and get the neighbor's (behind my house) yard cleared of blackberries, since they did come from my yard; I was not obligated to do so, but they thought that would be the "neighborly" thing to do.

(Editor's note: I am now trying to decide how "hard" I want to "hit" this item...)

Neighborly thing to do? Neighborly thing to do? Was it "neighborly" for my neighbors to file a complaint with the city WITHOUT EVER TALKING TO ME about the problem? Never mind that the blackberries originally came from my (side) neighbor's yard, and that they still have their blackberries, which will try to overtake my yard again. Never mind that apparently the City only gives out nuisance notices if someone files a complaint, meaning as far as I know my (side) neighbor's never received a nuisance notice to clear out their blackberries, even though it is clear to anyone who has been on my property looking at blackberries could see where the bigger problem actually lies.

Quite frankly, I was, shall we say, "amused" at the audacity of the City - asking me to be "neighborly", when clearly my neighbors (in my opinion) were not. Still, I held my tongue and actually agreed. But I told them I was out of town (in South Carolina on a project start-up) for the next couple of weeks, so I wouldn't be able to do anything about it until I got back in town (I arrived in town just last Thursday, late).

I don't know - maybe I was raised differently than other people; raised to actually go and talk politely to your neighbors FIRST if there is a problem, and only file a complaint as a last resort.

Had my neighbors actually bothered to talk with me FIRST, I wouldn't be so defensive.
