Chirstmas '09

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16

Arguably the most famous verse of the entire Holy Bible. Some may ask, "What does that have to do with Christmas?" To which my answer is: "Everything."

For what is Christmas? Despite what some would try and tell you (that it's about Santa Claus, reindeer, elves, trees, decorations, gifts, a magical snowman, etc.), it's the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ ("Christ-mas").

Humanists would say that the Church simply created Christmas to supplant the pagan 'holiday' of Saturnalia and that Christ wasn't even born in Winter, but in Spring or even Summer. To which I say "So what?" Regardless of how it came about, the (undisputed) fact remains that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

"For God (the the creator of the universe; all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful being) so loved (cares for; adores) the world (every man, woman, and child, regardless of age, color, social status, economic status, popularity, or any other category you can think of), that He gave (sent; freely-offered without charge; sacrificed) His only (there are no others; lone; unique; single) begotten Son, that whosoever (anyone, unconditionally) believeth in Him should not perish (suffer death; expire; crumble to dust; die), but have everlasting (no time limit; forever; eternal) life."

God gave us the greatest gift imaginable, and there is nothing we have to "do" to receive it, but believe.

Merry Christmas!
