"Old Man Walking..."

Yesterday, a high school friend of mine's daughter got married. That's enough to make anyone feel old. I'm no exception.

The saying "time flies..." is true; if you're not careful, you'll be 20-something one day and then the very next day (or so it will seem), you're 40-something and feeling even older.

Of course the up-side of the wedding is that I saw some old friends that I've not seen in literally years. That can make one feel young, so overall not quite a cancelling age day (but not as bad as it could have been).

It amazes me how easily it is to lose track of friends. It's rarely done on purpose, it's just life. We get so busy with ourselves that we often put-off things we should do - like call an old friend and say "How are you doing today?" We put it off until tomorrow, then tomorrow passes, then another day, and another...before you know it, 5 years (or sometimes even more) has passed.

Then there's either a funeral or a wedding which brings friends together; phone numbers and e-mail addresses are exchanged, but it doesn't take long to fall right back into the same old routine and once again years pass.

If you are reading this post and there is someone that comes to mind that you haven't talked to/written to/e-mailed, don't let another day go by. Call, write, or e-mail them today. If they live close to you, make lunch plans and catch-up with one another. Believe me, you'll be glad you did.

Nothing In Particular

I was awakened this morning at 5:45 AM by a call on my cell phone from one of our clients, who was having troubles with one of his systems. I suggested a few things; he said I'd hear from him if they still had problems. So I lay there for awhile, waiting to see if he'd call back or not. He didn't, so Ican only assume things went well.

If I had really thought about it, I would have had him call me back if things went OK too, for while I was waiting, I didn't want to try to go back to sleep just to be awakened again. Oh well.

So it's now about 11:30 AM and here I sit in my computer room, posting this entry. I look out my window and cringe at the lawn - it needs to be mowed. Badly. But it's been raining the last few days and while it is not raining at the moment, it is threatening to. I checked the grass earlier and it is way too wet to mow. If the rain manages to hold off, maybe it will dry out enough to mow later. A part of me hopes it doesn't, becuase I don't really like mowing.

Ah, the price one pays for being a home owner (with a lawn).

Happy Easter

What is "Easter"? I’m not talking about the definition or origin of the word. Easter has nothing to do with ham or chocolate or eggs or chickens or bunnies; it is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Many people believe that Jesus was a "good man" who lived and died long ago. But the story does not end there, as some would have you believe. He was not just some "good man" or just a prophet – He was much, much more. Jesus is the Son of God, who came to Earth as a man to become a sacrifice for our sins so that we could be blameless before God.

Yes, He died; but 3 days latter He rose-up from the dead.

Many people believe that Jesus died, but they find it impossible to believe that he rose from the dead. However, His resurrection is not just a story; the New Testament of the Holy Bible tells us that He was seen by over 500 people several days AFTER His crucifixion.

Now, there are those who will tell you that the Bible is full of errors and is nothing more than fiction with regards to actual history, but they are wrong. And while I will not take the time here to debate this common misconception, let me just say that there have been many attempts to "prove" the historical inaccuracy of the Bible and these attempts have wound up showing that the Bible was indeed historically correct. But don’t just take my word for it, do your own research and see for yourself.

Easter is the very crux of Christianity. Christ died and shed His blood for us because sin requires a blood-sacrifice, and if that were the end of the story, then it would be sufficient. But it is NOT the end. Christ not only died, but He rose-up from the grave, showing that He has power over death, and that we all can live forever with him. We need not fear death, if we believe in Him, for He conquered death. And if He can overcome death, the "final" act, there is nothing He cannot do.
